Civil War cartes de visite [picture], 1862-1865.

Carte de visite collection consisting of 27 Civil War era photographs, roughly the size of a business card, of mostly unidentified Wisconsin soldiers. Most show either a bust or a full-length view of a man in Union uniform, sometimes with a hat and sometimes holding a weapon. Three cartes de visite are identified by name and show David S. Green, Henry Rand, and William Sanders, respectively, all of Company B, 32nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. While the individual soldiers are not identified, there are also cartes depicting men from the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment, the 7th Battery of Wisconsin Light Artillery, and the 28th and 45th Wisconsin Infantry Regiments. Fourteen other cartes are completely unidentified, though many were taken by Wisconsin photographers. This collection also contains four patriotic-themed cartes de visite. There are two cartes that show Abraham Lincoln with his wife and two of his sons. A third depicts George Washington with his wife and two children, likely Martha's grandchildren from a previous marriage. The fourth patriotic image is titled "Washington and Lincoln, (Apotheosis.)" and it shows bust views of the two men surrounded by clouds with a thick beam of light shining down on them. Washington has one had on Lincoln's shoulder and with the other is about to place a crown of ivy on his head, representing the reverence in which Lincoln was held following the Civil War.
